Knight Hawks using Heroclix Ships

Postby fjw70 » Wed Jun 20, 2012 9:49 am

Okay Star Frontiers and Star Trek fans see if you can help me out. I am considering using KH for a Star Trek game using the new Star Trek Heroclix. I have already matched the Klingon ships to KH ship classes:

Raptor -- Assault Scout
D7 -- Frigate
Bird-of-Prey -- Destroyer
Vor'cha -- Heavy Cruiser
Negh'var – Battleship

I don’t really have one for the light cruiser class.

I am now trying to match the Federation ships to the KH classes. I matched the Sovereign-class to the KH battleship, but am not quite sure where the other ships should fit in. Here are the classes of ship in Heroclix. Any ideas?

Constitution
Defiant
Excelsior
Galaxy
Intrepid
Miranda
Nebula
Nova
Oberth
Prometheus
Saber
Sovereign

I have rethought the Klingon ships.

Raptor = corvette or assault scout
B'rel (bird of prey) = frigate
D7 = destroyer
K'vort (bird of prey) = light cruiser
Vor'cha = heavy cruiser
Negh'var= battleship

Here is what I have for the federation.

Assault scout= runabout (micro machine)
Frigate = Constitution, Miranda
Destroyer = Excelsior, Intrepid, Saber
Light cruiser = Defiant, Prometheus
Heavy cruiser = Nebula
Battle cruiser* = Galaxy
Battleship = Sovereign

The Nova and Oberth classes are science ships so I am not sure where they go. I will probably give them minimal armament, and average speed and maneuverability.

*New class created by me to fill-in the gap between the heavy cruiser and battleship.

I have updated how I see where the Star Trek ships fit in the Star Frontiers: Knight Hawks ship classes (and relative to each other). My main source of ships is the new Star Trek Heroclix ships I just got supplemented with the micro machines I already have.

First up is Starfleet.

Assault Scouts: Still using the MM Runabouts I have.

Corvettes: For this group I put the two small science vessels I have figs for: the older Oberth-class and the newer Nova-class.

Frigates: I have put the Constitution-class (original USS Enterprise) ships here since I am looking to use these from a TNG era perspective. I have also put the Constellation-class and Miranda-class ship here as well. Both are newer than the Constitution-class and a bit outdated by the TNG era (although the Miranda-class ships are still being used). Finally I put the Saber-class ships here also. These would be the newer frigates in use by Starfleet.

Destroyers: For this group I have old Excelsior-class ships (the battleship of its day but still widely used in Starfleet) and the newer and smaller Intrepid-class ships (e.g. Voyager). I figure that Starfleet is slowly replacing the Excelsiors with the Intrepids, but the Excelsiors still dominate this group.

Light Cruisers: The Ambassor-class ships are the older version, but the newer and much small Defiant-class ships now dominate this category. The Defiants are well known to have better offensive and defensive capabilities than much larger ships. I don’t have any Ambassor-class figures but I put it in here since I expect the next Heroclix set will probably have one (i.e. the Enterprise-C).

Heavy Cruisers: For this group I am using the Galaxy-class and Nebula-class ships. Technically the Galaxy-class is a little bigger and more powerful but with limited ship categories I thought they were close enough to lump together.

Battle Cruisers: This is a group I created myself to fit in-between the heavy cruisers and battleships. Right now I have the Prometheus-class ships here. In the late TNG era these ships are still experimental but are suppose to have significant fire power and took out a Nebula-class heavy cruiser on its own.

Battleships: The Sovereign-class ships (e.g. Enterprise-E) are the most advanced and most powerful Starfleet ships of the era so putting in the battleship group seemed an obvious choice.

Any comments on my classifications? How would you classify them within the Knight Hawks structure and relative to each other?

Next up: Klingon ships.
