Postby angelicdoctor » Mon Jul 09, 2012 3:18 pm

A friend of mine made me aware of a game in development which he plans on playing with his kids. Check thou out Pitfalls and Penguins!

The class list alone is uber-funny:

Agri-Cultist
Cataloger
Expert Swordsman
Lighter Fighter
Mage
Paladin
Redneck
Salaryman
Scientist
Shapeshifter
Videodocumentarian

Looks fantastic. I may or may not be feeding my Kickstarter habit with the project for the print version of this. I've also shared it with a bunch of people interested and involved in gaming advocacy via a group on Facebook.

Every little bit helps. Many thanks!

Interesting. I don't have kids, and shouldn't any time in the near future, but it seems like a nice game for them! I would have loved to have played that as a kid

I will wait until it gets to the store. I do not trust KS when it comes to boardgames...

I've had excellent results from Kickstarters myself. Every game I've decided to fund has been a pretty good deal, both in components and gameplay. My only complaint is that a few of them have taken a bit longer to be delivered than I'd hoped (I'm looking at you Tasty minstrel games). Of course, these were the some of the best games of the lot, so i guess the extra time was worth it.

Myth & Magic is my first and only KS so far. The previews were all great, and I'm eagerly awaiting the pdf and then finally, the book. If it is nice enough I'll gladly start contributing more to KS's

I have had excellent results as well but like anything else in the world, you usually do not pay for something that has not been playtested yet. I am not a fan of forking over money for an idea that has not been playetested to death to ensure the flaws are removed. Boardgames are no exception.

Alien Frontiers was a KS project and it did very well. I waited until it got to the gaming store though because I wanted to make sure it was playable.

I do agree that you have to think long and hard before you make the jump. That being said I've found that on most Kickstarter sthat I've decided to support, the KS campaign actually improved the playtesting dramatically. Most games are only playtested by a relatively small group, and i's easy for groupthink to get in the way and obscure some possibly gamebreaking issues. By offering Print and Play versions and having thousands of extra eyes looking at/playing the game a lot of things were discovered to make the games better.

Hehe... Alien frontiers (and it's expansions) were what i was referring to above. I kickstarted the expansions last year and just got it this past week. It's really good by the way, so the wait was worth it.
