Do Monsters have a morale stat?

Postby keith » Wed Jul 18, 2012 8:54 pm

Do Monsters have a morale stat?
I cant remember what version of D&D had that but I found it helpful in role playing the monsters.
I never used the stat as a exact ruling on if the monster stays or flees but it was good for an indicator of how brave the monsters were ;)

Thanks. Im very C&C anyone getting a group happening online?

Good question!

There are no Morale stats for monsters in C&C, however, on pages 80-81 of the Castle Keeper's Guide, one may find rules to adjudicate this sort of thing.

Castle Keeper's Guide wrote:Morale-reaction

Monster creatures are the only creatures which need to roll morale.
Morale does not affect deities and magic items. Monsters, however, can
suffer from poor morale or good morale, whether they are antagonists or
protagonists. Creatures serving as henchmen or hirelings and working with
the characters can become demoralized and quit the characters’ service or even be encouraged to remain longer or under more difficult circumstances.
Creatures who are fighting the characters can suffer the same.

Make morale checks for creatures serving as henchman or hirelings
more frequently than for other NPCs. Creatures possess a host of
cultural, linguistic, religious, and racial attributes they do not share
with players of any stripe. Thus, situations tend to affect them more
dramatically. Roll morale during every combat, during any dangerous
situation or one posing a threat to the creature’s well being, and at the
beginning and end of adventures.

To check a creature’s morale, the character must make a successful charisma save to keep the creature from fleeing; adjust the check by the challenge level of the situation, as determined by the Castle Keeper, as well as the loyalty rating, the character’s level, and any attribute bonus.

What follows this text is a table of recommended modifiers to this roll. Hope this helps!

Ok seems like I have to check out the full Castle Keeper manual. I was looking thru the condensed rule guide. Seems like from what you said that there is a Morale stat for monsters.
Thanks

Well, sorta kinda but not really. C&C, being what it is, relies on the SIEGE engine for this sort of thing. It is more like an ability check based on the Charisma score.

B/X D&D had a morale stat for monsters. You might be able to import the idea to your C&C game and extrapolate from the B/X books.

But there is no charisma scores for the creatures.
Im looking at the C&C condensed rule book. Is there more stats in the full monster manual and castle keeper guide regarding morale?

Ok I get it now... Ive played C&C a few times I get how one can adjudicate morale.
How I ruled it any bad guy or monster that has henchmen or minions would role a check using the siege engine to send them into battle and / or too keep them from running when they were near 0 hp. Then if they dont have a charisma stat Id assign them one based on how cool the bad guy was ;) Basically, Id just make a ruling on the spot. Im lucky I have good players and we have fun and thats what its about.
